Clinton Child Study Club

The Clinton group has 11 active members and 6 inactive members. They meet September through May in member’s homes and at locations in the community. Most monthly meetings include a presentation from a featured speaker. Charity work plays a large part in their yearly
Agenda. A successful yearly fundraising project is their sale of sportswear with the local school district’s logo. This past year they’ve raised over $500. They use the funds to sponsor many school donations such as a $100 scholarship for member’s children as they graduate from high school, purchasing equipment for the science department and library and after-prom activities. They also support community programs such as ‘Daily Bread’ (a food bank). The club likes to have fun and will occasionally include husbands such as this year’s wine and cheese party. Grand Ledge Child Study Club

The Grand Ledge group is one of the oldest in the MCSA family, having formed back in the 20’s. Currently they have 14 active members. They are mothers of teens through grandchildren. They meet semi-monthly from September to May, in member’s homes or on location. The group is very involved in local charity work. They have various fundraisers throughout the year to support programs such as ‘Empty Bowls’ (a food bank), and Serenity Place (a senior center). Hide and Seek Child Study Club

The Hillsdale group is a very active club with 25 members. The majority of the members have small children. They have a great variety of programs, and occasionally have speakers to talk about family or social issues. They always include fundraising and charity work. This year they used E-Bay to sell items donated by members earning the club over $600. They also host a husbands-night called ‘Poker Run’, a progressive dinner that culminates in a single poker game with ‘earned’ cards. The winner’s pot is $100, with the rest of the proceeds going to the club to fund a charity project. Past projects have included donations to a family whose child has cancer, and an organization that prevents child abuse. Anyone interested in joining should contact Deb.

Rattles to Rock Child Study Club

The Rattles to Rock group currently has 13 members, their children range in age from elementary school to grandchildren. The group meets once a month during the school year, in the evening at member’s homes. Several times a year speakers are invited to present a topic. Traditional programs include a craft night and a Christmas party with a ‘blind auction’ of gifts that have been made, baked or bought. Proceeds from the auction go towards the group’s charity project, which varies from year to year. This year the club put together Valentine baskets for a women’s shelter. They end the year with an outing at a fun restaurant. New members are always welcome. Please contact Laurie.

Peter Pan Child Study Club

The Peter Pan group has children that did grow up! The 13 members have children that are now grown and flown. They meet in the fall and spring (to accommodate snowbirds), usually in member’s homes. Their monthly programs center on women’s and family concerns. Having fun is as important as their charity work. Traditional meetings include a trip to Turkeyville and a movie night. Occasionally they get together in the summer for a picnic. They support local charities with a yearly project. If you would like to know more, please contact Kay.

Lapeer Child Study Club

The Lapeer group has 15 members, their children range in age from teens to grandchildren. They meet monthly, September through May, in member’s homes. Occasionally they have a speaker come to them to discuss a family or social issue. More often now, the group will go to a location for their meeting. This year they have made trips to a cider mill, had high tea at Miss Lucy’s Tea Room, made jewelry at a bead shop and learned the basics of martial arts. Soon they’ll be trying a group murder mystery in the style of “clue’. They also do fundraising and charity work. To raise money this year they had a silent auction and also paid $20 each to play bunco. They support local charities such as Head Start, the Safe Kids car seat program as well as Project Graduation. Alpha Child Study Club

There are 8 active members of the Alpha group, the member’s children range in age from early elementary age to college grads and grandchildren. To shake things up a bit this year, they’re trying something new. Each month’s hostess will be responsible for that months agenda. This year they’ve done a number of fun events such as a wine and cheese party and a weekend trip to Chicago to take in some shopping and a play. They do community charity work such as supporting project graduation. They had a very successful fundraiser selling coupons for Panera Bread, showing a profit of over $200. They’re a close group and would welcome new members, call Nanda for more information.

Ludington Seniors Child Study Club

The Ludington Seniors currently have 12 members. The members have children that range in age from elementary school age to grandchildren. They meet September through May in member’s homes. There is a program scheduled for each meeting, which occasionally includes having speakers present topics. The club has several traditions that they do every year. One is the Adopt-A-Family charity project. A local family is assigned to them in September, and the club provides items for them at all holidays. To earn money for this, they hold a ‘make it, bake it or fake it’ fundraiser in November. They end each year with a themed dinner in May. Anyone interested in joining is welcome to contact Annette.

Muskegonites Child Study Club

The Muskegonites are a group of 11 women and 3 associate members. Through the years these friends have watched their children grow up to adults and the members themselves become snowbirds. To keep the group together they’ve accommodated everyone by shifting their meeting dates to March through October. The highlight of the year for them is the annual Chicago trip, now in it’s 30th year. It operates as their fundraiser. They fill 3 charter buses for a one-day trip that includes shopping, dinner and a play. The proceeds allow them to support many local causes such as a food pantry, women’s shelter, scholarships for moms and daughters to the YMCA, buying children’s eyeglasses and purchasing teddy bears given out at hospitals. The monthly meetings often include a speaker discussing issues that involve children such as this year’s Youth Pride Program, a school program to keep kids off the streets. Okemos Child Study Club

The Okemos group currently has 10 members with children that range from school age to grand children. They meet monthly September through May, generally in member’s homes. Occasionally they will include a speaker to discuss a child rearing, family or social issue. A craft activity is always a highlight and is sometimes merged with service activities, such as a meeting where the group made flannel ‘no sew’ lap blankets for a local nursing home. Recent programs include a book club discussion of ‘Her Sister’s Keeper’, and a speaker who showed them how to organize their homes. Charity work is done to benefit local causes. Members contribute to these with donations of items, such as for ‘personal care packs’ given to needy families. New members are always welcome and should contact Barb.

Growing, Grown, Gone Child Study Club

The Port Huron group has 19 active members and 16 associates members. The member’s children range in age from infants to grandchildren. They meet September through June, mainly in member’s homes. Every year they have 4 to 5 speakers come to them to discuss issues such as coping with our busy lives, adolescence and sexual abuse. Fun is the goal of many of their meetings. This year they are having a murder mystery night and a meeting about fostering a sense of humor. Their annual fundraiser – a November ‘make and take’ auction raised over $500 this year. Members bring items that are homemade, baked or purchased and the ‘open’ auction proceeds. Members bid each other up and share laughs, all for a good cause. This year their charity projects have supported causes such as the March of Dimes, helping a local cancer patient and other interests that are voted on by the group. Rochester Metropolitan Child Study Club

The Rochester Metro group has 18 members. The women have children ranging in age from babies to grandkids. They meet September through May in member’s homes. The club has a combination of informative and just-for-fun meetings. In September they start their year with a ‘salad social’, where prospective members are encouraged to come. A Christmas gift exchange is a tradition. This years topics have included a trip to the Holocaust Museum, speakers on drug use and health issues, a discussion on women in the bible, and an overnight trip to Chicago. The Tecumseh group currently has 24 active members who meet September through May in member’s homes. Children of the members range from babies to grandchildren. They start off their year with a September Salad dinner, and pick ‘birthday buddies”. A highlight for the group is the annual support for a local family in need. They use their December meeting to throw a ‘wrap party’, where gifts for the charity family are wrapped. Throughout the year they have speakers on family and women’s issues. The Webberville group currently has 11 members. The member’s children range in age from babies to grandchildren. The club’s monthly meetings are held in member’s homes and occasionally include speakers. Topics vary between women’s, family and child-rearing issues. This group likes to have fun so a tradition is the April ladies night out. In the past they’ve gone to concerts, Frankenmuth, horse races and gambling. They also focus on charity work.. Williamston Child Study Club

The Williamston Club has 12 active members and 6 associates whose children range in age from elementary age to new grandchildren. The meetings take place monthly from September to May. A program is scheduled for each meeting and may include speakers focusing on child rearing, family or social issues. They kick off the year with a ‘what have you been up to’ social time. A recent meeting took place at Lowes where the members were taught the art of faux painting. Charity work is very important to them and a local family is ‘adopted’ every December. The women let their inner Betty Crocker out and bake cookies that are then assembled into baskets and donated to a food bank for the holidays. Rather than doing fundraising, the members all contribute out-of-pocket for their projects. Any interested person should contact Denise.
