Clinton
Child Study Club The
Clinton group has 11 active members and 6 inactive members. They
meet
September through May in member’s homes and at
locations in the community. Most monthly meetings include a presentation
from a featured speaker. Charity work plays a large part in their
yearly Grand
Ledge Child Study Club The Grand Ledge group is one of the oldest in the MCSA family, having formed back in the 20’s. Currently they have 14 active members. They are mothers of teens through grandchildren. They meet semi-monthly from September to May, in member’s homes or on location. The group is very involved in local charity work. They have various fundraisers throughout the year to support programs such as ‘Empty Bowls’ (a food bank), and Serenity Place (a senior center). Prospective new members are welcome to contact Mickey.
The Hillsdale group is a very active club with 25 members. The majority of the members have small children. They have a great variety of programs, and occasionally have speakers to talk about family or social issues. They always include fundraising and charity work. This year they used E-Bay to sell items donated by members earning the club over $600. They also host a husbands-night called ‘Poker Run’, a progressive dinner that culminates in a single poker game with ‘earned’ cards. The winner’s pot is $100, with the rest of the proceeds going to the club to fund a charity project. Past projects have included donations to a family whose child has cancer, and an organization that prevents child abuse. Anyone interested in joining should contact Deb. Rattles to Rock Child Study Club The Rattles to Rock group currently has 13 members, their children range in age from elementary school to grandchildren. The group meets once a month during the school year, in the evening at member’s homes. Several times a year speakers are invited to present a topic. Traditional programs include a craft night and a Christmas party with a ‘blind auction’ of gifts that have been made, baked or bought. Proceeds from the auction go towards the group’s charity project, which varies from year to year. This year the club put together Valentine baskets for a women’s shelter. They end the year with an outing at a fun restaurant. New members are always welcome. Please contact Laurie. Peter Pan Child Study Club Lapeer Child Study Club The Lapeer group has 15 members, their children range in age from teens to grandchildren. They meet monthly, September through May, in member’s homes. Occasionally they have a speaker come to them to discuss a family or social issue. More often now, the group will go to a location for their meeting. This year they have made trips to a cider mill, had high tea at Miss Lucy’s Tea Room, made jewelry at a bead shop and learned the basics of martial arts. Soon they’ll be trying a group murder mystery in the style of “clue’. They also do fundraising and charity work. To raise money this year they had a silent auction and also paid $20 each to play bunco. They support local charities such as Head Start, the Safe Kids car seat program as well as Project Graduation. Anyone interested in joining the group should contact Beth. Alpha Child Study Club Ludington Seniors Child Study Club The Ludington Seniors currently have 12 members. The members have children that range in age from elementary school age to grandchildren. They meet September through May in member’s homes. There is a program scheduled for each meeting, which occasionally includes having speakers present topics. The club has several traditions that they do every year. One is the Adopt-A-Family charity project. A local family is assigned to them in September, and the club provides items for them at all holidays. To earn money for this, they hold a ‘make it, bake it or fake it’ fundraiser in November. They end each year with a themed dinner in May. Anyone interested in joining is welcome to contact Annette. Muskegonites Child Study Club Okemos Child Study
Club The Okemos group currently has 10 members with children that range from school age to grand children. They meet monthly September through May, generally in member’s homes. Occasionally they will include a speaker to discuss a child rearing, family or social issue. A craft activity is always a highlight and is sometimes merged with service activities, such as a meeting where the group made flannel ‘no sew’ lap blankets for a local nursing home. Recent programs include a book club discussion of ‘Her Sister’s Keeper’, and a speaker who showed them how to organize their homes. Charity work is done to benefit local causes.
